A more conservative and orthodox form of Buddhism than Mahayana Buddhism. It is also known as Theravada Buddhism. Hinayana means `lesser vehicle' in Sanskrit. In Cambodia, Hinayana Buddhism was the religion of the people, as oppose to the religion of the nobility and the king (Mahayana Buddism).
